Leigh Hobbs

BIO

Leigh Hobbs has illustrated many children’s books as well as having his cartoon illustrations appear in newspapers. He also paints, draws and sculpts, his Flinders Street Railway Station teapot is in the National Gallery of Victoria and he has worked on Luna Park both in Sydney and Melbourne.

Leigh has built a cult following among school children with his characters of Old Tom, Horrible Harriet and Fiona the Pig in the ‘Old Tom’ series published by Puffin.

Leigh’s school visits can include:
– workshops demonstrating ‘How to create a character’
– teaching students drawing techniques to improve skills and confidence
– with older students, he can talk about taking the image from the page to the screen (Old Tom has made it to the screen as a mini series on ABC Television)
